Marie Watt Sewing Circle
This free program is in conjunction with Hunterdon Art Museum's exhibition, Companion Species (At What Cost): The Works of Marie Watt. Sewing Circles are an essential part of Marie Watt's work. Gather together with others to stitch pre-selected words onto panels made from pieces of reclaimed wool blankets. The panels often start with Indigenous points of view that become touchstones for cross-cultural knowledge sharing and connection between participants. Watt incorporates the panels into future artwork. In exchange for your time and stitches, you will receive a limited-edition print from the artist.
Watt’s Sewing Circles have taken place in numerous locations, including the Peabody Essex Museum, the National Gallery of Canada, and the Yale University Art Gallery.
