Their Mercury Lounge shows with Robbers on High Street, Radio 4, Longwave, The Mooney Suzuki, and a burgeoning young band called The Strokes, are the stuff of legend. The Realistics' are bringing back their signature swagger, infectious songs and powerful, bombastic performances — think Elvis Costello + The Who + The Clash — to help the Mercury Lounge celebrate its 25th anniversary. For a time, The Realistics were everywhere. In Levi's ads, on the cover of Fader Magazine, on stage with Buzzcocks and Joe Strummer, on tour with The Strokes, Peter, Bjorn & John and Blondie. They toured endlessly, spreading the gospel of high-energy rock and roll, leaving legions of fans and newly forming bands in their wake. Then they were gone. Their last show was headlining the Joe Strummer memorial concert at Irving Plaza, December 22, 2003. Reunion invitations came and went. But in December 2018, almost 15 years to the day, the perfect opportunity arose — reform to help celebrate the venue they called home. http://www.cityguideny.com/eventinfo.cfm?id=349003 Mercury Lounge Mercury Lounge
