Greek film screening
The Hellenic Film Society launches a new season of its monthly Greek film series at the Museum of the Moving Image. On Sunday, November 10 at 3pm, they will present Fonissa, which played to sold-out audiences in Greece and New York. Following the screening, director Eva Nathena will participate in an audience Q&A. The film received 16 2024 Hellenic Film Academy Award nominations, including Best Film and Best Director.
Fonissa is a gripping story of how a midwife spares the infant girls she delivers from the oppression and abuse that village women endured in their patriarchal society circa 1900. In Greek, with English subtitles. Mature audiences only – themes of domestic violence, feminicide, and infanticide.
