Poets House Presents Virtual Readings
Due to the coronavirus, please call to ensure this event is still happening before you leave home.
Poets House will present a reading by poet, novelist and playwright R. Zamora Linmark from his works Prime Time Apparitions, Rolling the R’s and The Importance of Being Wilde at Heart from his home in Honolulu, Hawaii. The reading will be live-streamed on the Poets House Twitter page on Wednesday July 8th at 12:00 PM EST, and will also be available on the Poets House Facebook page, IGTV, and YouTube channel. R. Zamora Linmark is the author of four poetry collections, including The Evolution of a Sigh and, most recently, Pop Vérité. He’s also published three novels which he’d adapted for the stage and had its premiere in Honolulu in 2008. He currently lives in Honolulu, Hawaii, and Baguio, Philippines where he is at work on a novel about the 1980s and a poetry collection tentatively titled Pilgrimage to a Killing.
And at 3:00 PM EST poet, essayist, editor and teacher Peter Gizzi will read July 8 from Bernadette Mayer’s Memory. The reading will be available on the Poets House Instagram page, YouTube channel, and website. Peter Gizzi is the author of many collections of poetry, most recently Archeophonics, In Defense of Nothing, and Threshold Songs. A new book, Now It’s Dark, is forthcoming December 2020. This upcoming reading is part of the Language is a Temptation series of daily readings throughout the month of July.
Throughout July, Poets House and Siglio Press will embark on a month long daily experiment: a passage from the corresponding day in 1971 will be read by poets, writers, critics, and artists, as a parallel durational work that celebrates the new publication of Bernadette Mayer’s Memory, which brings together the full sequence of images and text for the first time in book form. Founded by two-time U.S. Poet Laureate Stanley Kunitz and legendary arts administrator Elizabeth Kray, Poets House serves as a home for all who read and write poetry. In 2009, Poets House moved into its permanent home at 10 River Terrace in Battery Park City on the banks of the Hudson River where, last year, 80,000 people walked through its doors, and more than five million were introduced to Poets House through its new website and national partnerships. 2017 marks the 30th Anniversary Celebration of this landmark institution.
