FIT Summer 2021 Virtual Precollege Program - High School Summer Workshops for Students Entering Grades 9-12
This summer, the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) is once again bringing its iconic NYC classrooms to your location through virtual long and short-term Precollege online classes. The programs provide middle and high school students with virtual experiential learning, and offers parents, K-12 educators, and youth organizations an insightful lens into FIT's majors and the wide-ranging industries FIT serves. The courses are taught by renowned FIT faculty and cover diverse fields including fashion, advertising, photography, merchandising, illustration, interior design, fine arts, and more.
High School Summer Workshops for Students Entering Grades 9-12 Begin June 28 FIT's 30+ Precollege Workshops focus on a specific set of skills or interests that may span several majors. These 4-day programs are perfect for students who are hobbyists, are new to Precollege programs, or have limited time. Summer 2021 highlights include: • Simply Sewing: With a simple but flexible pattern, you will learn how to sew and create a wearable garment with the most basic of skills. Learn to work on residential sewing machines that allow you to reproduce these easy-to-learn techniques at home. Projects include pants and an optional top using patterns that you can evolve into new silhouettes and styles. • Fundamentals of Styling: This workshop is a must for future fashion stylists, designers, and merchandisers looking to experiment and push the boundaries of creativity and concept. The job of a stylist is to select ordinary elements and transform them into statements. The distinct styles you see in fashion photoshoots, publicity events, and worn by celebrities are all carefully crafted by a cultivated eye. Coordinate pattern, color, and mood, to create harmonious mood boards and presentations needed for pitching your unique flair to clients. You will gain an artistic foundation to create a specific mood or attitude by styling projects for personal and professional development. • Personal Branding & Self Promotion: Making a name for yourself in the fashion industry is practically impossible if you don't have the right skills and strategies. Learn how to use media, track current trends, and dress the part to get the attention of the right people. You will learn to discover what fashion careers are best suited for you as well as how to deliver your perfect elevator speech. But most importantly, true style comes from the inside, so we'll teach you how to define yourself, your personality, your skills, and how to create the brand called YOU!
Deadline to submit is Tuesday, June 2nd.
