Raising Voices for Immigrants
Please join us for a fundraising recital on Thursday, May 23 by pianist and author Vivien Schweitzer and Armenian-American soprano Anush Avetisyan to support ESOL and civics education at Center for the Integration and Advancement of New Americans (CIANA)!
Vivien, a CIANA board member and volunteer, and Anush, founder of Image of an Immigrant, were introduced via Turn the Spotlight, a non-profit whose mission includes “supporting artists who are using their talents and skills to strengthen their communities and pursue social justice.” They will perform a one-hour program of works by composers including Mozart, Dvorak, Puccini, Ives, Komitas and Florence Price.
Proceeds will directly benefit the immigrant families CIANA serves. All ticket holders are invited to a post-concert drinks reception at the National Opera Center.
About Center for the Integration and Advancement of New Americans (CIANA):
CIANA has been helping new immigrants in New York City integrate and reach their dreams since 2006. The not-for-profit social services agency specializes in providing an array of culturally competent and language appropriate services, with a focus on newcomers from the Middle East, North Africa, South Asia, and Latin America. New immigrants are encouraged to take advantage of the opportunities available to them, to take pride in their cultural heritage, and to blend the best of their ethnic identity with that of their new country.
