The Art Students League will host a free evening program exploring the life and work of League alumna artist Pacita Abad on Tuesday, May 16 from 6-7pm.

Explore the over three-decade career of Pacita Abad (b. Philippines, 1946–2004) with Victoria Sung, curator of the artist’s first retrospective at Walker Art Center, which will travel to three additional locations across the US.

Best known for her trapuntos, a form of quilted painting made by stitching and stuffing her canvases as opposed to stretching them over a wood frame, Abad used her artwork to address her feminist, transnational concerns in ways that continue to reverberate with artists and audiences today.

Sung will speak at the school’s Phyllis Harriman Mason Gallery, located at 215 W 57 Street, 2nd Floor. Registration is suggested.
