"Bicoastal," recent works by Gina Werfel
Prince Street Gallery is pleased to announce the exhibition "Bicoastal," recent works by Gina Werfel Exhibition dates: September 3-28, 2024 and Opening Reception: THURSDAY September 5th 5-8 pm Currently in transition from California to New York, Gina Werfel links Asian influences, including landscape and calligraphy, to Western traditions, especially Baroque figure painting, integrating them both within an overall practice of lyrical mark-making, informed by dance and indebted to Joan Mitchell and Willem de Kooning. Frames assume an active role; there’s a cinematic quality to the animated juxtaposition of gestures within shifting networks of painter’s tape, which reinforces her theme of displacement.
