Randy Klinger: 20 Drawings

Randy Klinger: 20 Drawings, Jan. 28 – Feb. 22, 2025 at Prince Street Gallery. Opening: Thursday, January 30, 2025, 5pm - 8pm
Intense, deeply-patterned graphite drawings on two separate themes: self-portraiture as an exploration of ‘Who am I?”, and Vermeer-inspired genre scenes - elevating the banality of the objects in our 21st-century life. Since childhood, Klinger has disdained the objects of 21st century life and wished for older, ‘greater’ times. His wish is to elevate the simple objects and surroundings of our time, by raising banality to beauty through intense observation and affection. By depicting a woman doing every-day tasks, he seeks to portray the stillness in the sitter, and to inspire a peacefulness in the viewer.
After hearing an inner message, ‘YOU are the Friend that you have been waiting for.’, Klinger knew that he finally had to release his self-judgement, and it was time to love every part of himself. His aim is to dispassionately observe his own body, to simply draw what he sees, and to create clear 3-D form and with it, palpable presence - by use of continuous 2-D pattern. Since the ‘aesthetic orgasm' that Klinger experienced in boyhood, his one aim has been to create pictures that can uplift the viewer on a physical level.
Originally from New York, Klinger established and directed the Moray Art Centre in Findhorn, Scotland, in 2007, where he both taught and lived. He exhibits internationally and is represented by Prince Street Gallery in NYC. His mentor was the renowned art historian, Sir Ernst Gombrich."
