The Queens Jazz Trail Concert Series: Sam Martinelli & The Brazilian Jazz Collective
After the famous Carnegie Hall concert in 1962, where Bossa Nova was introduced to the American public and the world, Brazilian music became an integral part of American and jazz culture. This sparked interest among jazz musicians who wanted to explore the new rhythms of Brazil and integrate them with the improvisational language of jazz. The Brazilian Jazz Collective, led by Brazilian drummer Sam Martinelli, aims to continue and expand this tradition. They mix key jazz elements, such as blues, bebop language, and improvisations, with the rhythms and grooves from Brazil, creating a unique performance and experience with the best of both worlds.
