Children are invited to join New York City-based artist and illustrator Joana Avillez at “Art Sundae” for a free afternoon of drawing on Saturday, January 12th from 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. at 30 Rockefeller Plaza, Concourse Level (located between 49th and 50th Streets and 5th and 6th Avenues), Manhattan. The best kids’ sketches will be displayed in an upcoming public art exhibition. Joanna Avillez is a celebrated illustrator who has won acclaim for her playful drawings of city life. She is best known to her fans as author of Life Dressing and her latest, D-C-T, and she also illustrated Lena Dunham’s Not That Kind of Girl. She most recently collaborated with Rockefeller Center on an illustrated map, which can be seen in lightboxes around the Center, and obtained free of charge at the 30 Rockefeller Center welcome desk. Art Sundae is a public program created by the nonprofit Art Production Fund and the cultural space Fort Gansevoort that is designed to build confidence in children through artmaking. The free program offers children the opportunity to work with a contemporary artist to create a public art project that will be displayed at The Windows at Fort Gansevoort, located at 51 Gansevoort Street in the Meatpacking District. The event is free and open to the public. Reservations are not required.
