The Sound of Spring: Celebrate Year of the Snake with the Orchestra Now at Rose Theater, Jazz at Lincoln Center
Don’t miss this joyful New York tradition for the most important holiday in the lunar calendar! Celebrate the Year of the Snake with music! “The Sound of Spring” returns to Jazz at Lincoln Center for its sixth year of celebratory Chinese orchestral music, featuring guest appearances by the virtuosic erhu soloist Yan Guowei, the magnificent percussionist Zhang Jingli, and renowned sheng master Wang Lei, all from the legendary faculty of the Central Conservatory of Music, China. The US-China Music Institute is also proud to present pipa soloist Jinou Anastasia Dong, winner of the Bard Conservatory’s Concerto Competition, in her NYC debut.   Maestro Jindong Cai has curated a program showcasing exceptional examples of contemporary symphonic music from China, all composed within the past 75 years. Highlights include the Chinese New Year favorite “Spring Festival Overture” by Li Huanzhi, the beautifully evocative pipa concerto “Little Sisters of the Grassland”, and the world premiere of “Majestic Gallop” for sheng and orchestra, commissioned for this concert from composer Xinyan Li.   A special pre-concert event will begin at 2 pm in the 5th floor lobby of Rose Theater. Arrive early for a live Chinese instrument demonstration and try them out for yourself! “The Sound of Spring” is presented by The US-China Music Institute of the Bard College Conservatory of Music, in collaboration with the Central Conservatory of Music, China. Support for the event generously provided by the Tianqiao and Chrissy Chen Institute.
