Brianna Lance: This Contains Magic
Salon 21 is pleased to present “This Contains Magic,” a solo exhibition by Brianna Lance, opening to the public on Tuesday, September 10, 2024.
The central theme of the exhibition dives deep into themes often overlooked in the art world, highlighting hyper-feminine messaging through a lens of symbolism and mysticism. Her oeuvre is informed by all of her previous artworks, always referencing and building on older works in her practice, as life’s ebbs and flows impact and reform the meaning of previous iconography. The seven paintings in the exhibition, including both oil paintings and watercolors, explore dreamscapes and an almost obsessive study of flora. Symbols, such as flowers, eyes, and fruit are layered, literally and figuratively, to create something entirely new. The exhibition also includes clay vessels painted with similar iconography, continuing the narrative in three-dimensional form.
Brianna Lance is a self-taught artist based in New York City. Driven to document her ongoing subconscious and spiritual journeys, she paints fantastical environments rich in detail and spontaneous in form. After working in fashion for many years as a designer, creative director, and consultant, Lance decided to change her main focus to painting in 2020. Her paintings have been featured in Vogue, Miami Art Week, Harper’s Bazaar, East Hampton Star, Luxe Interiors Magazine, and Russh Magazine. Recent collaborations include The Edition Hotels, Ciao Lucia, And Other Stories, and more.
