Alfonso Ossorio: Works From the Foundation
Sotheby’s S|2 gallery is pleased to present Alfonso Ossorio: Works from the Foundation, one of the first of two shows that are part of the gallery’s re-focused program to celebrate historically important artists who are underappreciated by the market. On view until June 9, 2017, the gallery will showcase fourteen works by post-war American artist Alfonso Ossorio. One of the seminal figures of American post-war art and early patron of Pollock, Ossorio established his East Hampton studio as a central hub for the New York art scene, housing Jean Dubuffet’s Art Brut collection as well as serving as a seasonal studio for Clyfford Still and other artists. Surveying over thirty years of works on paper, paintings and sculptures, the works in this exhibition range from abstract canvases and wax resist watercolors of the 1950s to mixed media assemblages from the 1970s, synthesizing elements of Surrealism, Abstract Expressionism and Art Brut.
