MIECZYSLAW WEINBERG: THE CENTENNIAL
MIECZYSLAW WEINBERG (1919-1996) was one of the most prolific composers in history who's Holocaust-related opera "The Passenger" was the centerpiece of a 2014 Lincoln Center Festival, and who's worldwide recognition is about to reach a long awaited peak. Learn more at www.mweinberg.info Program 24 Cello Preludes, opus 100 (1969) Performed by noted Latvian-born cellist, prizewinner of the Tchaikovsky Competition, recipient of a 1990 Avery Fisher Career Grant, and first to record composer's entire legacy for unaccompanied cello, YOSIF FEIGELSON. Preludes are resembling a series of very vivid paintings, contain many different styles of writing, elements of Slavic, Jewish, and other ethnic music. As such, this work has an intricate connection to and will be juxtaposed with the famed Pictures at an Exhibition by MODEST MUSSORGSKY (1839 -1881) performed by the brilliant world-class pianist, ILYA YAKUSHEV. he program also includes Two Yiddish Songs by M.Weinberg featuring the cantor of SWFS, DANIEL SINGER.
