Organum Et Cantus
French composer and organist Maurice Duruflé said: "I work slowly, and throw a lot away." Duruflé was one of the most methodical and self-critical composers in history, resulting in one of the smallest bodies of works by a major composer. Musica Viva NY presents two of his masterpieces—Requiem, Op. 9, and the Four Motets on Gregorian Themes, Op. 10—alongside the beloved Concerto for Organ, Timpani, and Strings by Francis Poulenc, a work that was premiered in 1938 with Duruflé himself at the organ. Musica Viva NY is delighted to welcome back acclaimed organist Renée Anne Louprette, former Associate Music Director at All Souls Church, as our soloist for this special performance.
