Ever since the Spanish bolero school dancer Fanny Elssler set foot on the New York stage in 1840 New York City has had a vibrant flamenco scene. This time "Nueva York Flamenco City" is comprised of singer and flautist Alfonso Cid, flamenco guitarist Raphael Brunn and dancer Xianix Barrera. Alfonso Cid was born and raised in Sevilla, the heartland of flamenco music. He also had the opportunity of attending the activities of one the most significant flamenco clubs in Andalusia, the Peña Flamenca Torres- Macarena in Seville. Alfonso is a well-known artist in the USA and abroad. Fresh from a tour of Spain with the New York Bojaira Jazz Flamenco Project, he has also toured Israel with the Jerusalem Andalusian Orchestra, and has traveled all over the world with famous bachata artist Romeo Santos. Xianix Barrera, a native New Yorker born to Puerto Rican and Dominican parents, had her first exposure to music and dance at an early age with studies in ballet, modern, jazz and percussion. Xianix began flamenco studies in New York and deepened them in Spain with distinguished masters including Andres Peña, Concha Vargas, Carmen Ledesma and Raquel Heredia among others. She has worked and performed with such prominent artists as Isabel Bayón, Ángel Muñoz, Soledad Barrio and Juan Ogalla. The "soniquete" (flamenco swing) of Raphael Brunn on flamenco guitar is one of a kind. His public debut playing Flamenco guitar was in the opening festivities of the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona, Spain. Raphael has performed with many of the artists who initially inspired his dedication to the flamenco tradition. He worked with El Farruquito and El Torombo in the production of Incognito, in Frankfurt, Germany. Now based in New York City, Raphael performs with various Flamenco artists and is currently working on his second CD. http://www.cityguideny.com/eventinfo.cfm?id=271292 The Cornelia Street Cafe The Cornelia Street Cafe
