Beefheart's music combines Delta blues, free-jazz and proto-punk rock with surreal imagery, ecological concerns, and the highest and airiest of wit, a sound which proved highly influential on the first wave of punk avatars (including John Lydon, Joe Strummer, and David Byrne) and many other seminal artists (David Lynch, Ed Ruscha, Julian Schnabel, and Matt Groening). On stage and on record Van Vliet explored musical and lyrical territory never before charted in the confines of a traditional electric band line-up before devoting himself full-time to painting, garnering a loyal worldwide fan base in the process. http://www.cityguideny.com/eventinfo.cfm?id=353016 The Cutting Room The Cutting Room
