We are excited to welcome renowned contemporary artist Simone Douglas who will take you on a compelling visual journey sharing her innovative environmental land work ‘Ice Boat,’ the driving force of a multi-year project. A paradoxical pairing of ice and desert, the Ice Boat tilts towards the heat of the sun, melting as it follows its arc across the sky and reforming into a ”sea” of water while regenerating the land. Ice Boat is situated on the ancient bed of a pre-historic ocean and was formed using sustainable energy delivered by the sun. Central to Douglas’s work is advocacy and advancement for the role of art as a key part of shaping and understanding the collective future. Her work has been exhibited internationally and can be found in collections including the Victoria & Albert Museum in London and the National Gallery of Victoria, in addition to being featured in international contemporary anthologies and in major publications including ArtForum, Blind Spot, and Art + Australia.
