The Seaport Hosts Lunar New Year Celebration for the Community on January 21
The Seaport, in partnership with the New York Chinese Cultural Center and the South Street Seaport Museum, are set to host a Lunar New Year celebration on January 21 st . Combining tradition, learning and fun activities, the schedule for the Lunar New Year celebrations in the Seaport are as follows:
Lion Dance: On January 21 st from 12:30 – 1:00 p.m., visitors to the Seaport neighborhood can watch the traditional Lion Dance, starting outside of the Tin Building and working its way through the area, ending at the Heineken Riverdeck on Pier 17. Chinese Calligraphy Workshops: Following the Lion Dance, the South Street Seaport and New York Chinese Cultural Center will be hosting Chinese Calligraphy Workshops at 1:00, 2:00 and 3:00 p.m., teaching workshop attendees traditional calligraphy, including how to write characters and informing students on the history of the characters and their relationship to the New Year. The workshops are geared towards ages 7-12, though all are welcome to join. RSVPs are required.
