New York City Celebrates 20th Anniversary of The Gates
This February and March, residents and visitors of the New York region will have two unique opportunities to celebrate the 20th anniversary of The Gates, the monumental public art installation by Christo and Jeanne-Claude that transformed the city in 2005.
In Central Park, the free arts and culture app, Bloomberg Connects, is offering a unique augmented reality experience that will enable park visitors to relive the iconic 2005 installation by using their mobile device as a portal to see and interact with a section of The Gates where they once stood.
The innovative, 21st Century cultural venue, The Shed, is hosting a comprehensive exhibition, “Christo and Jeanne-Claude: The Gates and Unrealized Projects for New York City,” displaying a rich media experience as well as an in-depth narrative around the artistic legacy of Christo and Jeanne-Claude and the complex evolution of bringing The Gates to life.
