Les Filles DE Montréal: Naya Ali, Sophia Bel, Claudia Bouvette
Due to the coronavirus, please call to ensure this event is still happening before you leave home.
Ethiopian-born, Montréal-raised Hip-Hop artist Naya Ali is one to keep an eye on in the coming years. She burst onto the scene last year with her debut single 'Ra Ra', which was championed by VICE, Spotify and Apple Music playlists. Her second single 'Out The dirt', a gritty pure rap track, sees Naya in flying form, as she raps about not only trusting the process, but falling in love with it. Halfway between the arcane and the brutalist, Sophia Bel's musical aesthetics are truly and delightfully unsettling, like a cold shower that would also have acquired the comforting properties of a warm blanket. Coming up with hooks and melodies as if they had been read straight from the palm of her hand, Montreal's Putting her own contemporary spin on UK-informed sophisti-pop, Claudia Bouvette's musical debut is the culmination of a year-long writing process. In collaboration with producers Connor Seidel and Beau Diakowicz, Claudia's extensive catalogue of demos are fashioned into heartfelt anthems capturing a distinct sound that blends organic instrumentation with of-the-moment sleekness. With evocative lyrical content and an eclectic approach to delving into different musical styles, the 'more is more' ethos of Claudia's ambitious debut is appealingly unfiltered.
