Compost for Your Home and Garden: Community Compost Giveback
At the Wyckoff House Museum we use lots of rich compost to improve the health of the soil and grow delicious vegetables. As a Public Food Scrap Drop-Off location we encourage the community to separate compostable waste from their Land-fill destined garbage and instead bring it to the farm where we will process it in our 3-Bin compost system. After several months its ready to return to the soil! Every year an increasing number of New Yorkers are able to compost their food scraps with Department of Sanitation curbside organics pickup service. These food scraps undergo a beautiful process of change from scraps into compost. This compost when added to the soil provides essential nutrients to plants and helps to improve the health of the Soil. The Department of Sanitation will be providing free 40lb bags of NYC compost to use at your home and in your garden! Come by the Wyckoff House Museum to pick it up and get answers to your compost related questions from a DSNY Outreach Coordinator. Register and RSVP here to reserve up to 4 bags. Come prepared to carry out your compost.
