Hurricane Season
Vernal & Sere Theatre delivers its New York City premiere with this original production of their 2022 breakout-play. Hurricane Season positions itself between opposing forces of erotic desire and national anxiety, delivering a startling portrait of American life in the process. Set against a backdrop of news headlines and pornography, a husband and wife each become entangled in extra-marital affairs with young people eerily resembling their own likeness. This chance encounter leads the couple to opposite ends of the earth in search of love and meaning in their doppelgängers. Writer-Director Sawyer Estes combines elements ranging from Ingmar Bergman to Anne Carson to Sarah Kane; in the process the company delivers a production teeming with sexual energy, melancholy, and whimsy.
