Yes, Chef
Open to the public Fridays – Sundays, and marking the official opening of WSA’s 40,000-square-foot exhibition space—a hallmark of the building’s cultural ecosystem—Yes Chef presents large-scale, site-specific commissions by contemporary artists Chloe Wise, Jeffrey Meris, Devin B. Johnson, Lucia Hierro, Tavares Strachan, and Kiyan Williams, as well as monumental works by Nari Ward, Camille Henrot, Gabriel Chaile, Trenton Doyle Hancock, Kathleen Ryan, Claes Oldenburg, Lauren Halsey, Alison Saar, among others. In keeping with the theme, the exhibition space features a fully functional pop-up restaurant, Black Caesar, throughout the course of the exhibition, based on Tavares Strachan’s new site-specific work, Black Caesar. Conceived with Strachan, the fusion menu highlights North African and Roman Italian cuisine.
Works on view will be presented against the backdrop of WSA’s travertine floors, double-story ceilings, and dramatic floor-to-ceiling windows looking out onto expansive views of the East River and the Brooklyn skyline, while light-filled exhibition space provides ample square footage for each artist to create their own distinct environment in which viewers can experience each artwork.
