Ailey Dance Class: Broadway Jazz
Perfect for students who love Broadway dance and want to learn how to pick up combinations quickly and perform them with confidence, this class features Broadway show tunes and choreography from beginning to end.
Broadway dance is synonymous with musical theater and has roots in African American social dance, classical ballet, jazz ballet, and vaudeville. Broadway dance combines body isolations, long extensions, and percussive movements, moving from slinky and sensual to fast and dynamic. In addition to technique and performance skills, participants will also learn the history of the songs, the composers, the artists, and their influence on musical theater history, from Golden Age musicals to today’s shows, while developing your personal style and character.
Horton technique is the foundation for many of Ailey’s works, including Revelations, and is a fundamental training technique for The Ailey School, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, and Ailey II.
