Irondale Ensemble Project and The American Opera Project present Letters That You Will Not Get: Women’s Voices from the Great War
With a run of 7 performances at The Space at Irondale, the new opera work is written and performed by an all-female cast and gives a voice to the women who lived and died during World War 1. With source material from letters, memoirs, journal entries and other documented accounts, we meet a series of American, British, European, Asian, African, and Caribbean women who were mothers and wives, daughters, friends and lovers, nurses and factory workers, caretakers, and civilians, living on both sides of the conflict. Coming at a time where the female perspective, voice, and power feels muted and in jeopardy, this piece unveils a history that has been left out of history books, giving a deeper lens into the struggles women have faced throughout history.
