NYC High School Scholarship

High School Student Scholarship

Women In Tourism Awards are an industry-wide recognition of all women’s contributions. The program includes a scholarship for a NYC high school student from NAF's (formerly know as National Academy Foundation) Academy of Hospitality & Tourism, which supports nearly 1,000 hospitality & tourism students in NYC.

Businesses that support NAF academies play an active and integral role in shaping the future workforce and building a diverse talent pipeline. They offer career readiness and work-based learning activities, including internships, enabling students to connect directly with hospitality & tourism professionals to learn first-hand about the industry and the skills needed to thrive.

NAF is a national education non-profit that transforms the high school experience to prepare more than 100,000 students for college, career, and future success. NAF academies are small learning communities within public high schools that promote a career-focused education and open enrollment, enabling students of all backgrounds and capabilities to participate and feel included in a meaningful educational experience.

The Academy of Hospitality & Tourism is NAF’s second longest-running career pathway, originating more than 30 years ago. NAF currently supports nearly 19,000 students in Academies of Hospitality and Tourism in 18 states. Overall, 92% of students are female and/or ethnic minorities, with 98% of seniors graduated and 83% going to college.

University Tourism & Hospitality Students

In addition, Women In Tourism will be hosting hospitality and tourism undergraduate and grad students from NYU's Jonathan M. Tisch Center of Hospitality and Hospitality Management at St. John's University as the industry's guests at the luncheon. The students will have the opportunity to network with 2023 honorees, nominees, and luncheon guests, as well as receive advice and testimonials about working in the industry.

Jabreia Jackson, a graduating senior from the High School of Enterprise, Business, & Technology’s NAF Academy of Hospitality & Tourism.

I am thankful for receiving the 2023 Women in Tourism Student Scholarship. This scholarship is the result of the work that my NAF Academy of Hospitality and Tourism at the High School for Enterprise, Business and Technology has done to inspire me to learn the skills needed, not just for the hospitality and tourism industry, but skills that can be applied to everyday life. My NAF academy teachers have given me skills that I didn’t know I needed which has helped raise my awareness and wanting to learn more about careers in this exciting industry. My teachers have helped me understand what I have to offer and changed my views on how lessons can be applied in my life. MY NAF academy experience has afforded me many opportunities, giving me more confidence as a young woman. For this I am grateful.

“I was proud to be awarded the 2022 Women in Tourism Student Scholarship from Davler Media. This scholarship and my NAF academy has a lot of significance for me. It inspired me to come out of the shadow and engage in more intellectual conversations with my peers. Prior to this award I would keep a lot of my thoughts to myself as I was afraid of rejection. I have come to understand that it is better to take the leap with endless possibilities than to stay still. As one of my favorite quotes begins, "After every storm comes a rainbow." You get knowledge from each and every experience that helps you to become a better person. I continue to be proud of all the efforts I have taken to obtain such a great reward.”
