Professional Bull Riders Buck Into Madison Square GardenDecember 28, 2016 - by Linda Sheridan
If you’re going to be in New York City January 6-8, 2017, and seek adrenaline-pumping action well beyond a Broadway show or a bustling nightclub, grab a front row seat to view the Professional Bull Riders (PBR) Built Ford Tough Series (BFTS) season at Madison Square Garden with the Monster Energy Buck Off. The famed New York arena will see the country’s top 35 bull riders risking it all to single-handedly ride eight seconds on 1,800 pound beasts for top points and a hefty purse. The first of four PBR Majors this year, the tournament will culminate with the PBR Built Ford Tough Finals in Las Vegas, where the rider with most points wins the World Champion Belt Buckle and a cool $1 million bonus.
Two time PBR World Champion and Monster Energy Bull rider J.B. Mauney, along with fellow Monster Energy riders, Gage Gay, Robson Palermo, and Chase Outlaw will return in hopes of being crowned event champion.
Four judges serve on the panel to determine each rider’s score. Several things are taken into account—how hard, how high he [the bull] bucks, how fast he spins, change in direction, the difficulty of the animal. As hard and fast rules for the rider go, you must ride for at least eight seconds, using only one hand. If you touch the animal with the other hand you are immediately disqualified.
The PBR Monster Energy Buck Off will also be televised on CBS. Tickets range from $25-$207. VIP packages are available. The action begins Jan. 6 at 7:45pm sharp, Jan. 7 at 6:50pm and Jan. 8 at 1:50pm. For tickets, visit ticketmaster.com. For more information on PBR, visit pbr.com.
