If you’re looking to take a trip out of town while you’re in the city, there are two must-see locations to visit, whether you gamble or not: Borgata’s The Water Club in Atlantic City and Mohegan Sun in Connecticut.

THE WATER CLUB

Borgata’s signature hotel, The Water Club, has opened to much fanfare, and is Atlantic City’s first boutique-lifestyle hotel. It combines elements of the original Borgata Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas while delivering a unique personality of its own.

The ultra-modern 43-story, $400 million hotel features 800 guestrooms and suites; Immersion, a two-story spa on the 32nd floor; 18,000 square feet of meeting and event spaces; three Residences modeled after chic, urban lofts; and five heated pools, both indoor and outdoor, each offering a distinct experience. In the corridor adjoining the Borgata and The Water Club you’ll find six luxury retail shops including La Perla, Hugo Boss, and Hearts on Fire, and the hotel also has seven destination restaurants, including Wolfgang Puck’s American Grille and an Old Homestead Steakhouse.

Conceived as an exclusive extension to the sophisticated, international style that already defines Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa, The Water Club offers a serenely cosmopolitan setting, blending high design and modern amenities with an intimate and highly personalized guest experience. True to its name, the element of water introduces the notion of vitality and sets the overall aesthetic tone for The Water Club; intriguing design materials fuse clean, elegant lines with soothing water features.

The hotel’s lobby lounge, The Sunroom, offers a central view of one of two heated outdoor pools, inspired by the design and experience of Miami’s South Beach. A perfect setting for sunning and socializing, the Brazilian Ipé wooden deck features sand and cabanas overlooking a 400-jet Infinity-edge Jacuzzi pool. The hotel’s two indoor pools are set amid lush live landscaping, large bamboo stalks, and natural light, evoking the feeling of an outdoor setting.

Located on the 32nd floor, Immersion – The Spa at The Water Club features 16 ‘experience’ rooms, a state-of-the-art fitness center, and a spacious, 25-yard Infinity-edge lap pool with sky views overlooking the ocean. Although The Water Club isn’t a gaming facility, hotel guests can head next door to the Borgata and be high rollers. For more information on The Water Club, and directions call 800-800-8817 or visit www.thewaterclubatborgata.com.

MOHEGAN SUN

Located in Connecticut, in the heart of scenic New England, Mohegan Sun’s hotel accommodations are nothing short of extraordinary. Standing 34 stories tall with 1,200 luxury guest rooms and suites, the hotel at Mohegan Sun has been expertly designed to set a new standard of excellence. Measuring a minimum of 450 square feet, each room contains either a king or two double queen beds, relaxing lounge chairs, and spacious marble bathrooms.

Gaming is the top priority at Mohegan Sun, and their tables feature everything from Baccarat to Three Card Poker. They also have 6,000 slot machines, and if you like the horses, Mohegan Sun’s Race Book is a state-of-the-art facility offering the latest innovations in betting technology, prompting the question, are you still in the casino or truly  “at the races”?

If you want to leave your room for something besides gaming, surrender to the divine spa therapies in the luxurious, 22,300-square-foot Elemis Spa. Available only to guests, the Fitness Center and pool are the perfect way to unwind. The Fitness Center has the latest Life-Fitness equipment, or you can work up a sweat in the Aerobic room with their full selection of fitness classes. Meet with one of their nationally certified personal trainers and nutritionists who will help with everything from personal training to body-composition analysis. The 10,000-square-foot solarium, with an indoor-outdoor pool and whirlpool, are the perfect way to unwind, and in the summer months, sunbathe or just relax in the summer heat on the 6,000-square-foot sun terrace located just beyond the pool area.

And if golfing is your game, take advantage of their private 18-hole championship golf course, Pautipaug, considered by many to be the best-kept secret in all of Connecticut. It is nestled in the hills of Baltic, located minutes from Norwich, New London, and Willimantic. The private-country-club atmosphere assures a quality experience and an unforgettable day.

In addition to the hotel’s amenities, Mohegan Sun also hosts concerts, athletic events, and trade shows. This month, among the headliners are:?George Clinton and the P-Funk All Stars (July 11), Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons (July 12), The Osmond Brothers (July 19), and Kansas (July 23); and they also host WNBA?games in their Mohegan Sun Arena. And don’t miss the fine dining available on their premises, the on-site restaurants include Michael Jordan’s Steakhouse and Todd English’s Tuscany.
