Two cities down. Two cities to go. It’s at this point in the Fashion Month calendar that a few days in Milan can feel almost like a vacation. The street style images filtering in from Instagram and style blogs are sunnier and brighter. The sky bluer. And, naturally, gelato is making a starring appearance as the must-have accessory. To get that Italian vibe in NYC, head straight to the shops (potentially after a detour for a scoop of stracciatella at the Flatiron District’s beloved Eataly outpost). A lot of color, bold prints and fun shapes are just the trick for making the rest of the NYC winter a bit brighter.
Milan Fashion Week in NYC: Prada
1.) Prada’s nylon clutches and accessories are timeless fashion accessories. The brand’s Venice collection print is a rare find. Here the motif is vibrantly strewn on a vintage clutch, workable for carrying from dawn to dusk. A Second Chance, 155 Prince Street and 1111 Lexington Avenue. asecondchanceresale.com
Milan Fashion Week in NYC: Versace
2.) Long revered for being one of the most glamorous fashion powerhouses in Italy, Versace will undoubtedly shake things up this season. Rumor is they will be announcing a new creative director (ahem, Riccardo Tisci). Pick up one of their signature silk scarves, strewn with a golden Baroque print. Milan Fashion Week in NYC: Gucci
3.) It’s the brand still on everyone’s lips: Gucci. While you will need to wait until fall to shop their new collection, their resort and spring collections are in stores now and they are resplendently colorful. Case in point: these rainbow platforms. It’s virtually impossible not to smile with these beauties on. Gucci, 200 Vesey Street at Brookfield Place. gucci.com
Milan Fashion Week in NYC: Moschino
4.) Jeremy Scott’s fall collection for Moschino promises to be interesting, to say the least. It is being dubbed #rataporter. For now, we’ll happily take one of his cute teddy bear-printed T-shirts. These are an homage to the original version the founder of Moschino made in the late eighties. Moschino, 73 Wooster Street. moschino.com
Milan Fashion Week in NYC: Marni
5.) While much of the Italian design world goes for the bright and loud, Marni has long embraced streamlined silhouettes filtered with a modern viewpoint. This leather backpack is chic and simple, while still being a bold addition to any spring and summer ensemble. Marni, 21 East 67th Street. marni.com
Milan Fashion Week in NYC: Fendi
6.) Sometimes it is worth looking down, at least when you have a cheeky pair of Fendi shoes on. Their Fendi Faces collection continues to be a major talking point for the brand. We adore these slip-on loafers in a mix of pastel and jewel hues that will work season after season. Fendi, 104 Greene Street. fendi.com
