Ready or Not, Here Comes New York Fashion Week

Labor Day will hardly be a distant memory before New York Fashion Week (Sept. 7-15) begins a few days later. One season ends, and the next season is raring to go—at least that tends to be the pace of the fashion flock. To celebrate the kick-off of Fashion Month, we’ve rounded up our favorite NYC designers and the places to shop ‘em. Whether you’re more of a downtown gal or an uptown lady, there’s something in the city’s top shops to buy now and (best yet) wear now.

Proenza Schouler

1.) It’s hard to believe Proenza Schouler is still just over a decade old. The duo behind the ridiculously hip label have become New York City mainstays. Their coveted PS11 handbags continue to be collectors’ items, and we especially adore this version rendered in gold metallic.

Diane Von Furstenberg

2.) As iconic as the designer herself, Diane von Furstenberg’s wrap dresses will never go out of style. You may very well see one on this fall’s runway. This version is made from the most ethereal silk jersey with a lovely winter florals motif.

 Rebecca Minkoff

3.) Uptown? Downtown? No need to choose when sporting Rebecca Minkoff’s clever sweatshirt. The designer is on the brink of the ever-changing retail landscape, as this season she promises to show an assortment of ready-to-wear that will be shoppable moments after its debut on the runway.

Alexander Wang

4.) Since launching his eponymous line, Alexander Wang has been a perennial favorite for his brilliantly calibrated model-off-duty aesthetic. For just the right amount of edge (on an infinitely walkable shoe) there’s no better option for fall than to nab his studded oxford leather bootie.

 Brandon Maxwell

5.) From stylist to Lady Gaga to instant designer sensation (to dressing FLOTUS, no less) Brandon Maxwell is one to keep an eye on. His pieces are simultaneously feminine and forward, and always gives the wearer a flattering silhouette.
