Angie Stone - B.B. King Blues Club & Grill
August 08, 2013 - New York

If Angie Stone had her way, she'd sit down next to every single one of her fans and pour out her heart - and soul - to them. She'd empower them with hard-earned wisdom; lessons learned from her very own heartache and happiness, mistakes and triumphs that led her to three Grammy Award nominations, two Soul Train Lady of Soul Awards, and four Top 10 R&B albums (with her The Art of Love & War going all the way to number one). And with her new album, Rich Girl, the neo-soul songwriter has done just that, delivering a powerfully intimate collection of songs that wrap themselves around you like a warm embrace full of love and compassion, strength and wit.

"I spent a lot of time over the past few years working with other people, writing with them, working with producers. And then one day I realized that while I was doing everything I could to help them succeed and watching them grow, I was losing pieces of myself in the process." she explains "I shaved a lot of my originality off when merging with so many other people. Fans weren't getting Angie Stone. They were getting Angie and so-and-so. I knew I had to get back to my own music and skills. It's time for Angie to do Angie." That journey returned Stone to her songwriting roots, determined to record an album where making great music and sharing her soul were the only things that mattered.

Motive Plays BMI Showcase - BMI 7@7 Festival
August 09, 2013 - New York

Indie-Rock Brooklynites Motive will release the first single “Burn Down Brooklyn,” from their upcoming debut full-length album coming out March 2014. The first track off of the LP features the band's signature electric guitar and catchy garage-rock revival driven sound with a modern indie sensibility. “Burn Down Brooklyn” and the second single “Mammals” were recorded at a Converse Rubber Tracks session and were produced and mixed by Jason Finkel (Hundred Waters) and mastered by Justin Shturtz (JET, Alice In Chains) at Sterling Sound.

The Seattle transplants emerged from a Clinton Hill, Brooklyn practice space onto stages around the city including Highline Ballroom and Webster Hall and are rapidly taking NYC – and the Internet – by storm. Motive has shared the stage with buzzing bands such as The Vaccines and Walk The Moon and their videos for "What's So Bad?" and "It's Illicit" were both featured on MTV2's show '120 Minutes' with Matt Pinfield. Along with the support of MTV, their video for the remix of “It’s Illicit” was written about in the New York Times and the foursome was featured/interviewed by CBS News.

All four members got their musical roots from playing in their high school Jazz band and competing internationally. Nick Wold (vocals/guitar), Chris Bagamery (drums) and Dave Leondi (guitar) all played with Wynton Marsalis and Leondi also performed with Dave Brubeck. Motive’s catchy, hook-laced songwriting comes from Wold, who is so compelled to create new material that he actually lives in the band’s rehearsal space, submerged in writing. With a flair for fashion, Twelv Magazine asked Motive to record a Talking Head's cover for their Jean Paul Gaultier fashion video. The band also caught the eye of designer Sarah Baker, who met the boys at a show in Brooklyn and instantly fell in love with the band. Baker kindly offered to design suits for the group and collaborated with local artist Hannah Burgos whom created unique and meaningful hand drawn illustrations which Baker sewed to the inside of each suit. Burgos also created an organ (lungs, heart, liver and esophagus) for each member, which Baker sewed to the center of the suits.

Motive combines the grunge-rock appeal of Nirvana with catchy riffs a la The Strokes, and will co-headline shows with NO around NYC this summer and will be performing at Music in the Middle Festival in October. Look out for their latest release coming out March 2014!
