'Free Friday' Concert at Seaport Museum New York - Seaport Museum New York

The New York Packet Singers will entertain and delight the whole family with a free performance of sea shanties and songs of tall ships on Friday, January 21st from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM at Seaport Museum New York, located at 12 Fulton Street (between Front Street and Water Street) in Manhattan.

The performance is offered as part of the Museum’s Free Friday program. On the third Friday of each month, Seaport Museum New York presents free public programs and Museum staff members provide free tours through the Museum’s exhibitions. For this month’s Free Friday, guests can view the Normandie exhibition, “DECODENCE: Legendary Interiors and Illustrious Travelers Aboard the SS Normandie,” free of charge between 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM.

Country rockers Lyle Lovett and John Hiatt will perform TOGETHER on January 22 at the Beacon Theatre.

Lyle Lovett and John Hiatt are teaming up this winter for a series of intimate acoustic shows that will feature both artists performing side-by-side, alternating songs from throughout their careers.

With a dynamic chemistry mixing wry banter with finely crafted country, swing, folk, R&B and rock 'n' roll' Lovett and Hiatt' each with more than two dozen albums to their credit, have been touring together periodically since 1989, setting aside respective bands for the opportunity of delivering one of the most compelling concerts on the road. Don't miss this opportunity to see two of the America's finest songwriters swap stories and songs.

Since entering the music scene in 1980, Lovett has recorded thirteen albums, and has one four Grammy Awards. Lovett has also appeared in over a dozen movies and television shows, including Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story, The New Guy, Brothers and Sisters, and Mad About You.

John Hiatt has recorded over 20 albums, and was awarded the Americana Music Association: Lifetime Achievement Award for Songwriting in 2008. His latest album, The Open Road was released in March 2010.

On Saturday, January 22 at 10:00 p.m., Uruguayan singer-songwriter Jorge Drexler performs a distinctive combination of traditional Uruguayan music, bossa nova, pop, and electronica. Drexler's songs often encompass themes of love, identity, race, and religion as with his composition "Al otro lado del rio" from the soundtrack of the 2004 film, The Motorcycle Diaries, which won an Academy Award for Best Original Song.

The Carlyle Hotel (Erich Steinbock, Managing Director) welcomes two-time Tony Award winner Christine Ebersole to the legendary Cafe Carlyle for her fourth engagement in the iconic New York venue. Beginning Tuesday, January 11th, 2011 (and playing through Saturday, January 29th), Ms. Ebersole, whom Stephen Holden of The New York Times has called "a goddess formed out of the ectoplasm in screwball heaven -- a dizzy, curly headed blonde with a soprano whose wheeling vibrato evokes Jeanette MacDonald with a whiff of helium," will present an all new program -- an eclectic musical evening on the subjects of Hollywood, family, and aging. John Oddo (Musical Director) will lead a quartet. Tony Award-winner Scott Wittman directs.

Ms. Ebersole received the 2010 Nightlife Award for "Outstanding Cabaret Vocalist in a Major Engagement" for her critically-acclaimed 2009 Cafe Carlyle engagement at the 8th Annual Nightlife Awards ceremony in January. The Cafe Carlyle is located in The Carlyle Hotel - 35 East 76th Street at Madison Avenue. The performance schedule is: Tuesday-Friday at 8:45 PM with an additional show on Saturday at 10:45 PM. There is a $75 music charge for the Tuesday-Friday performances ($40, bar) and an $85 music charge ($50, bar) for the Friday and Saturday performances. Dinner is served from 6:30PM. His classes focus on strengthening your playing by achieving the correct right and left hand techniques, and increase your understanding of Flamenco within the context of dance and singing accompaniment. With over 30 years of professional experience, Basilio offers an incredible mix of traditional and modern styles and techniques, and is also able to work with written music or tablature.
