Nature Signs Family Day - Earthplace

Become an animal tracker and learn how to look for and recognize the variety of animal signs to be found right in your own backyard. There are also games, crafts and a take-home guide. Take a guided walks at 11:30 AM or 1:30 PM. Free with regular admission.

Bowling for Rhinos - Connecticut's Beardsley Zoo

Join the Beardsley Zoo's American Association of Zoo Keepers (AAZK) Chapter in this fun family event to help with Rhino conservation efforts at Lewa Wildlife Conservancy in Kenya. All proceeds will help save the Black and White Rhinos in danger of extinction. While the Beardsley Zoo does not house any species of rhino, our efforts will contribute to the worldwide preservation of these beautiful animals, so children around the world can see them in the wild and in zoos alike for many decades to come. Join us for a fun-filled day of activities, including outdoor games for kids, Wii bowling and a delicious bake sale. This event will take place at the Professor Beardsley's Research Station.

Reptile Rally - PETCO
July 17, 2010 -

To many, the idea of being in close quarters with a reptile sends shivers up their spine, but surprisingly there are 4.7 million reptile owning households in the US today, according to the American Pet Products Association Survey 2009/2010. PETCO is encouraging reptile owners all over the nation to unite in support of their pet and attend a July 17, 2010 Reptile Rally held at local PETCOs beginning at 11 am. In addition to giving reptile parents an opportunity to show off their pride and joy, PETCO is inviting those who are squeamish (ahem, moms) to attend for meet-and-greets with everything from the bearded dragon to the less intimidating turtle, as well as care and habitat "how to" seminars and feeding time led by reptile specialists.

Butterflies of Summer! - Theodore Roosevelt Sanctuary & Audubon Center

Join Sanctuary naturalist Carol-Anne Pugliese to learn about the amazing and beautiful species of butterflies that we see throughout the summer on Long Island. She will also share tips on flowers to plant in your garden which will help attract butterflies to your home.

Wonders of Wildlife - Connecticut's Beardsley Zoo

Come on over and meet some the world's most fascinating animals! Explore exotic places like deserts, rain forests, wetlands and even Connecticut's backyard forests while learning about the amazing adaptations that allow animals to call those places home. Presented at the Zoo's Learning Circle, this event is FREE with Zoo admission.

Evening Lecture Series: Reforestation - Connecticut's Beardsley Zoo

This lecture, taking place in the Hanson Exploration Station, is part of the Evening Lecture Series, sponsored by Connecticut's Beardsley Zoo Volunteer Association. Admission is FREE with donations gratefully accepted. Refreshments will be served.

106.7 Lite fm Presents Broadway in Bryant Park 2010 - Bryant Park

The best of Broadway is presented FREE on six consecutive Thursdays this summer with this lunchtime series on the Bryant Park Stage. Sponsored by Bank of America, and JCPenney 33rd & 6th, and hosted by Lite fm's on-air personalities, the tenth annual presentation of open-air, On- and Off- Broadway lunch hour performances runs through August 12th. 12:30-1:30pm. Scheduled performers for 7/22 include Chicago, A Little Night Music, Falling for Eve, Rock of Ages.

Friday Family Campfire - Earthplace

Hear stories of animals too crazy to be true as well as some real animals. Tell your own story. Toast marshmallows and make s’mores around a campfire. Bring along a blanket or chair. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Animal Tales - Connecticut's Beardsley Zoo

Visit us for story time, a special craft and even an animal encounter each weekday. All activities are FREE with the purchase of Zoo admission. Families with children under age 6 are welcome.

Zoo Patrol - Connecticut's Beardsley Zoo
Through July 23, 2010 -

Zoo Patrol is an exciting summer activities program offered for children. Situated on Zoo grounds, children participate in talks and activities with Zoo staff, play animal-related games and participate in arts and crafts. Each day's activities vary and may include preparing an animal enrichment item, nature walks and getting a glimpse behind the scenes. Sessions run Monday through Friday. Each week is $130/child for members and $150/child for non-members. Weeks one and two are for children ages 7 - 11; weeks three and four are for children ages 12 - 15. Explore the Stream - Earthplace

Children and their parents can learn more about the streams and rivers that run through our towns. Explore Stony Brook to learn how water moves dirt, how animals cope with big rainstorms, who lives in the water, what plants do well in watery soil, and so much more. We’ll get right into the water, so wear sneakers and old clothes. Included with regular admission.
