New York City is not only home to great cultural institutions, shops and events; it's also a place where there are plenty of things to do outside. If you're looking for ways to enjoy New York's beautiful summer weather, we've got some great suggestions for things you can do outdoors?from New York parks and outdoor cafes to flea markets, sporting events, and street fairs. Here are some of our favorite things to do in NYC this week that will get you out of the house!

Super You & Me | Laidback Luke - Pacha NYC

Is it a bird, is it a plane, it's Super You&Me! On Saturday, July 3 we ask YOU to show your support by transforming yourself into your favorite Superhero! The DRESSCODE is easy: Superheroes, Villans and Vixens. Anything goes, the more creative and crazy the better. Think of the X-Men, Flash Gordon, Batman....OR create your own outfit and give yourself superhuman powers you've always wanted to have. The 3rd of July is the day you can test your X-Ray goggles, take your jet engine boots for a test drive and rescue your crush from the hands of an evil villain, take along a tin of spinach and bust out some break-dance moves and make this a party of Superhuman proportions!

Wonders of Wildlife - Connecticut's Beardsley Zoo

Come on over and meet some the world's most fascinating animals! Explore exotic places like deserts, rain forests, wetlands and even Connecticut's backyard forests while learning about the amazing adaptations that allow animals to call those places home. Presented at the Zoo's Learning Circle, this event is FREE with Zoo admission.

Animal Tales - Connecticut's Beardsley Zoo

Visit us for story time, a special craft and even an animal encounter each weekday. All activities are FREE with the purchase of Zoo admission. Families with children under age 6 are welcome.

Zoo Patrol - Connecticut's Beardsley Zoo
Through July 09, 2010 -

Zoo Patrol is an exciting summer activities program offered for children. Situated on Zoo grounds, children participate in talks and activities with Zoo staff, play animal-related games and participate in arts and crafts. Each day's activities vary and may include preparing an animal enrichment item, nature walks and getting a glimpse behind the scenes. Sessions run Monday through Friday. Each week is $130/child for members and $150/child for non-members. Weeks one and two are for children ages 7 - 11; weeks three and four are for children ages 12 - 15. An Earthplace naturalist helps give you a fish eye view of what lies below the quiet surface of a pond. Be prepared with old sneakers to get wet. Included with regular admission.

Drop in for a family program with live animal, story & project. There is a different theme each week. Child must be accompanied by an adult. Ages: 3-10. Included with regular admission.

The Edible Garden - New York Botanical Garden
Through October 17, 2010 -

An exhibition celebrating and preparing great food. Set across the 250-acre NYBG, The Edible Garden features vegetable gardens and displays, demonstrations from food and gardening experts, celebrity appearances by Daisy Martinez, Dan Barber, Sara Moulton, and others during four festival weekends, and programs that demonstrate the bounty, economy, and nutritional value of edible plants. Penguins - Maritime Aquarium
Through December 31, 2010 - Norwalk

Come fall in love with the new colony of African penguins in a new outdoor exhibit, offering views above and below the water.
