But Johnny and the Jukes have not just survived - they have flourished. They've produced over thirty albums, several EPs and a box set. They've given thousands of live performances around the globe. They boast a legion of dedicated and enthusiastic fans, dozens of classic songs, and a record, Hearts of Stone (1978), that Rolling Stone named one of the Top 100 Albums of the '70s and '80s. Rahsaan Patterson - B.B. King Blues Club & Grill
June 09, 2013 - New York

Longtime fans have watched Rahsaan Patterson ("Rah" to his friends) grow from the skinny, wide-eyed boy with the big eyes and bigger voice on the classic children's show Kids Incorporated into one of the most influential yet underrated soul men on the planet. (His career is riddled with paradox and irony.) We've watched him sport blonde-streaked hair and cutting-edge fashions while strolling through European-set music videos, and then hung on to his every note in clubs and concert halls around the globe as he, shorn of hair and clad in the simplest of gear, bled out in song - joy, pain, longing, despair, and ecstasy. We've kept track of the who's who of talented folks he's written and produced for and with (from pop diva Brandy to fellow under-sung MVP Van Hunt), with whom he's collaborated (Ledisi and Lalah Hathaway), and of the icons who have sung his praises (the awesome Chaka Khan) and ushered him into the hall of the greats.

Paul McCartney - Barclays Center
June 10, 2013 - Brooklyn

Buffy Sainte Marie - B.B. King Blues Club & Grill
June 11, 2013 - New York

Buffy Sainte-Marie virtually invented the role of Native American international activist pop star. Her concern for protecting indigenous intellectual property, and her distaste for the exploitation of Native American artists and performers has kept her in the forefront of activism in the arts for forty years. Throughout her career, she has made 17 albums of her music, three of her own television specials, spent five years on Sesame Street, scored movies, helped to found Canada's 'Music of Aboriginal Canada' JUNO category, raised a son, earned a Ph.D. in Fine Arts, taught Digital Music as adjunct professor at several colleges, and won an Academy Award Oscar for the song "Up Where We Belong".

Signed to Vanguard, she was one of the folk scene's more prominent rising stars in the '60s, and certainly the only widely heard performer articulating Native American viewpoints in song. Much of her best material from this era, however, gained its greatest commercial inroads via cover versions. "Universal Soldier" was one of Donovan's first hits. "Until It's Time for You to Go," perhaps her best composition, was covered by numerous pop singers, and became a big British hit for Elvis Presley in the early '70s. "Cod'ine," one of the few '60s songs to explicitly address the dangers of drugs, was covered by Californian rock bands Quicksilver Messenger Service and the Charlatans.

"Running For The Drum," Buffy's first album since the 1992 release "Coincidence and likely Stories," contains twelve new inspired songs and stories about current events, art, politics and the aboriginal people, that showcase her emotional integrity and thrilling voice!

Buffy Sainte-Marie is accompanied by a hot 5-piece all-Aboriginal band, blending the edgy sound of Winnipeg's Gathering of Flies band with Buffy's longtime friends and backup singers Ulali. The concert combines new songs from the "Running for the Drum" CD including No No Keshagesh and Cho Cho Fire, alongside those of her classics most requested by fans - Universal Soldier, Up Where We Belong, Until It's Time for You to Go, Spin & Spin, Cod'ine, Piney Wood Hills, Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee, Starwalker and lots of others.

Devendra Bahnart - The Town Hall
June 12, 2013 - New York

Devendra Banhart emerged as one of the central figures in the "freak folk" movement of the 2000s -- a loosely connected group of singer-songwriters who paired acoustic songs with vivid, surrealistic lyrics and idiosyncratic arrangements. Banhart's music is often charmingly childlike, filled with pianos, cellos, and handclaps, plus big doses of neo-hippie whimsy. The Cali-based singer can also be a serious craftsman. As the 2000s wore on he deployed his gorgeous vibrato and melodic skills with more and more focus.

June 13, 2013 - New York

Voted one of world's "50 Great Voices" by NPR, Buika -- born on the island of MaJorca to African immigrant parents -- has emerged as a true innovator, a must-see artist among jazz aficionados. Her evident African roots and her cosmopolitanism, developed in clubs in Spain and Americanized during a surreal stint in Las Vegas, explain Buika's rare self-possession. But nothing can quite explain her ability to connect, in spite of the fact that she sings nearly exclusively in Spanish -- Buika is simply one of those rare and wonderful "one listen" artists.

Swinging with the Big Bands - Jazz at Lincoln Center
Through June 13, 2013 - New York

During the 1930s, when times were tough, big bands criss-crossed the U.S. by road and rail, their tunes ballyhooed via radio. Their stars were household names. Their beat -- which was swing -- was the default groove for dancers. Band singers like Frank Sinatra, Billy Eckstine, Ivie Anderson, Dan Grissom, and Dick Powell inflamed hearts around the globe. Their music was the soundtrack of the age, and it will be celebrated over two nights as Michael Feinstein hosts Wynton Marsalis and Vince Giordano's Nighthawks alongside vocalists Nellie McKay, Connie Evingson, and Sachal Vasandani to highlight the history and the music of one of the most exciting and crucial crossover movements in the mix of jazz and American popular song.

Blue Note Jazz Festival-Susan Baca - Highline Ballroom
June 14, 2013 - New York

With a splendid voice and equally impressive interpretive gifts, Susana Baca is a primary exponent of the Afro-Peruvian musical tradition.Baca came to world attention in 1995, when her rendition of "Maria Lando," a heartbreaking ballad of Third World worker oppression, was included on David Byrne's The Soul of Black Peru compilation. Since the Byrne compilation, she has toured the United States several times and released several albums, including an eponymously titled solo album on Byrne's Luaka Bop label; a disc, Del Fuego y del Agua, for Tonga Productions; 2002's Espíritu Vivo, and 2006's Travesías. Baca is particularly interested in reinterpreting old Afro-Peruvian melodies. At her best, Baca conveys an unforgettable, haunting melancholy, the lament of a people separated from their homeland by a continent and an ocean.
