Dick Cavett Makes 'Brief Encounter' in NYC on December 3

Intellectual banter meets celeb culture on December 3 at 7pm when author/founder of Socrates in the City, Eric Metaxas, hits the interview jackpot with three-time Emmy winner Dick Cavett at Manhattan’s W83.

Not that there isn’t motive behind this upcoming dialogue: Cavett will be discussing his new book, Brief Encounters: Conversations, Magic Moments, and Assorted Hijinks (a fair turnabout, seeing as Cavett interviewed Metaxas in late October about his new book, Miracles: What They Are, Why They Happen, and How They Can Change Your Life).

Having interviewed Cavett back when he was appearing on Broadway in The Rocky Horror Show, I can assure you this is a rare — make that not-to-be-missed — opportunity to experience his signature melding of smart and funny laced with insight.

In the event you are of a post-Cavett generation and his name and/or talk show host legacy doesn’t hit a ringtone, I suggest you get Googling. One or two YouTube clips should do the trick. And while you’re online, you should probably order his book (forward by Jimmy Fallon), as it references the iconic list of entertainers, sports figures, and politicos who crossed his interview path, mostly during the network TV run of The Dick Cavett Show (1969-1972). The roster, FYI, includes Bowie, Brando, Hendrix, Ali, Olivier, Fellini, Hitchock, Carson, Hefner, Groucho, Lucy, Liz, Dick, Judy, Liza, and Woody.

Bottom line: It just doesn’t get anymore insider savvy than this. I’ll be there, book in hand and husband in tow (he’s as big a Cavett fan as I am!).

Details/Reservations: SocratesInTheCity.com [Heads up on just how big a bargain we’re talking here: Cavett, Metaxas, wine & appetizers for $30.]

Sell-out Potential: Huge.
