Visiting New York City Museums on a Budget

Some NYC museums always have free admission. Some have certain times when you can get in for free. Others have suggested donations-read-pay what you wish/can. (Of course, it is always encouraged to support our cultural institutions.)

TIMES TO VISIT MUSEUMS FOR FREE

Every Friday from 4pm-8pm, Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) has UNIQLO Free Friday Nights. However, tickets are not available in advance ... Museum of the Moving Image offers free admission, also on Friday evenings, from 4pm-8pm ... Every Wednesday at The Bronx's New York Botanical Garden, admission to the grounds is free, as well as on Saturdays from 9am-10am.

The New York Hall of Science offers free general admission, September through June, on Fridays, 2pm-5pm, and Sundays, 10am-11am (not applicable during the World Maker Faire) ... Admission to the Intrepid, Sea, Air & Space Museum is always free for active/retired U.S. military persons (and kids under 3) ... Admission to the National 9/11 Memorial Museum is free Tuesdays from 5pm-8pm. 9/11 family members do not have to pay admission. 9/11 rescue and recovery workers who are registered with the Memorial also visit for free.
