NYU Abu Dhabi Speaker Series: Children’s Literature in Fossil Fuel Culture with Lara Saguisag
The NYU Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) Institute in New York will present a discussion with Lara Saguisag, NYU Associate Professor and Georgiou Chair in Children’s Literature and Literacy, on the ways fossil fuel culture seeps into children’s literature at the NYU Abu Dhabi Institute in New York on April 4th from 4:30 PM to 6:00 PM—at 19 Washington Square N New York, NY 10011.
In her newest book project, Children’s Literature in Fossil Fuel Culture, Saguisag examines the ways fossil fuel industries are represented in children’s books and how the oil industry has long apprehended children’s cultural forms as means to promote petroleum and its byproducts.
At this event, Saguisag will touch upon the ways children’s narratives have normalized and interrogated human relationships with fossil fuels. Attendees will learn about how recent children’s titles about climate justice confront the spectacular and slow violences of oil extraction and production.
This event is open to the public and registration is required to attend. To register for the event or for additional information on the talk, please visit the link here.
