The Laramie Project
In the aftermath of the brutal murder of a gay college student in Laramie, Wyoming in 1998, and the media frenzy that followed, a NYC theater company asked "What can we as theater artists do as a response? They travelled to Laramie many times, recording the experiences of a cross-section of the community from the "person in the street" to police, doctors, and the murderers themselves, from which they created a unique and eternally relevant play, a kaleidoscopic portrait of our nation's values, prejudices, and aspirations. "Astounding. Not since Angels In America has a play attempted as much: An examination of the American psyche" --Associated Press "A theatrical event not to be missed" --New York Magazine
