Presented by the Queens Museum and Queens Library. Through this 7-week long workshop, participants will learn basic bookmaking skills and how to make sun prints. The instructor will introduce various bookmaking techniques, such as stitch and stab binding, as well as pop-up, flip, and accordion bookmaking. Sun printing is based on the cyano type process, which has been used by artists since its development in the 19th century. Objects that eclipse the sun's light will show up in white, with the rest of the paper turning a vibrant Prussian Blue. Participants will also be a chance to develop a personal artistic book project in the latter stages. Born and raised in Shanghai, China, Yijun Liao is an artist currently residing in Brooklyn, NY. She is a recipient of the NYFA Fellowship in photography. She has done residencies at Camera Club of New York, Lower Manhattan Cultural Council and Center for Photography at Woodstock. Liao has exhibited internationally, including Arario Gallery (NY), kunst licht Gallery (China), VT Artsalon (Taiwan), Kips Gallery (Korea), The Running Horse Contemporary Art Space (Lebanon), NordArt (Germany), Pingyao International Photography Fest (China), etc,.
