Add to Calendar 23-11-2012 09-12-2012 15 LOVE SONG, a Black Comedy by John Kolvenbach The Seeing Place Theater, known for intensely intimate ensemble work, brings you John Kolvenbach’s disarming story of loneliness defeated by love. 2007 OLIVIER NOMINATION FOR BEST NEW COMEDY "What secret ingredient makes you think things are Possible?" THE STORY: Meet Beane. He's depressed. His well-meaning sister, Joan, and brother-in-law, Harry, try and make time for him in their busy lives, but no one can get through. Following a burglary on Beane's apartment, Joan is baffled to find her brother blissfully happy and in love with his assailant, Molly. Suddenly Beane's got something to live for, and that's contagious enough to transform his sister's life too - right down to the nuts and bolts of her marriage. Unfortunately, Beane's got a problem that could land them all right back where they started. Funny, enchanting and wonderfully touching, John Kolvenbach’s Olivier Award-Nominated, offbeat comedy is a rhapsody to the power of love in all its forms. "John Kolvenbach's play [is] about how to find yourself, recreate, mutilate, enrich yourself. The writing is crisp, tough, undogmatic, menacingly funny. Strongly recommended, especially to those not afraid of the freedom of fantasy." —Sunday Times (London) November 23 - December 9, 2012 Wed-Sat @ 8pm; Sat & Sun @ 2pm THEATER INFO: The Seeing Place @ ATA's Sargent Theater 314 West 54th St. 4th Floor. We are forcefully committed to honoring the actor's process through robust table work and organic storytelling which extends from rehearsal into performance. Unlike other companies, we do not cement our choices in advance. What audiences see is a group of actors "in the moment" - delving deep within themselves and working off one another to tell a story that is fresh and alive night to night. And we do this while pursuing our mission to provide quality, professional theater at a price that everyone in our community can afford- $12 per ticket. (That's less than a movie!)
