Description: The Tick-Borne Disease Alliance (TBDA), a national nonprofit organization dedicated to raising awareness, supporting initiatives and promoting advocacy to find a cure for Lyme and other tick-borne diseases, will hold its 2013 Annual Benefit on Thursday, May 2nd in New York City. During the event, TBDA will honor key supporters and patients who have emerged as leaders in the fight against tick-borne diseases, including Lyme. Actress Candice Accola, star of the hit TV show “The Vampire Diaries,” will serve as master of ceremonies.
During the evening, Courage Awards will be presented to three women who have demonstrated inspiring perseverance in their personal battles with tick-borne diseases: Cara Munn, who overcame a harrowing personal experience after contracting tick-borne encephalitis on a school trip to China, which left her unable to speak; Meghan Harrison, a former model and varsity swimmer who created the Lyme Lite Fashion Show to support awareness; and Lori Brownell, a 17-year-old from Upstate New York who shares her ongoing struggle with Lyme through a series of YouTube videos. Norma Russo will accept the Humanitarian Award for her pivotal role in advancing awareness about the impact of tick-borne diseases around the world, in particular Latin America, among sufferers and the medical community. The TBDA Annual Benefit will be held on Thursday, May 2nd at Pier 60, Chelsea Piers in Manhattan. The dinner and awards program will include a silent auction, a samba band and dancers. Cocktails and the silent auction will begin at 6 p.m., followed by dinner and the awards program. More information about the event can be found at www.tbdalliance.org.
