Powered by the big, warm voice of Bronx native singer/songwriter Alynda lee Segarra and by a mean fiddle, the New Orleans-based band has won critical acclaim, jumping through the door the Alabama Shakes flung open for smart, edgy Americana. With the Roots Project, Martha Redbone has uncovered where the sparkling innocence of William Blake's poetry meets the stony lonesome sound of Appalachia. Inspired by her Native American forbearers and adored for her soaring soul voice, Redbone brings out the roughness and sweetness of her mountain heritage. A passionate singer who often collaborates with roots innovators like Daniel Lanois, Trixie Whitley can be as evocative and emotional as Lucinda Williams or Emmylou Harris, while harnessing the grit and spark of a Ruth Brown or Koko Taylor. Her spare and atmospheric arrangements work to set off her stunning voice, dancing at the edge of vintage country and new soul. http://www.cityguideny.com/eventinfo.cfm?id=136831 Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts true DD/MM/YYYY
