The Korean Performing Arts Center proudly presents its 19th annual concert, Taepy'?ng Sôngdae; Great Peace, Tranquility, and Joy for Thousands of Years!, featuring two exceptional Korean performing artists, Jung Je-Man with the Byuksa Dance Company and Sue Yeon Park with Sounds of Korea. Master Jung is a human cultural asset in Korea (Intangible Culture Heritage No.27, Seungmu: Buddhist Monk’s Dance), and Sue Yeon Park is a New York-based Korean dance master and National Heritage Fellow at the National Endowment for the Arts. Taepy'?ng Sôngdae (????) is a term which means a peaceful reign, era, or carefree world where a benevolent king well governs the county and people. This show is a traditional music and dance presentation, which hopes to encourage a carefree state-of-mind where both country and people are relaxed and can achieve all the things they wish. Master Jung will present two pieces at his New York premiere, Taepyeongmu (great peace dance wishing peace for country) and Hutton Salpuri (shaman ceremonial and improvisation dance) that expresses his unique and compelling dance ability with didimsae (footstep) finesse. Sue Yeon Park, with the Sounds of Korea performance troupe, will perform Giwonmu, a dance making a wish to god to bring prosperity and welfare to the people. This dance shows very elegant, sophisticated, and colorfully decorated costumes, movements and gestures. The group will then display the Ipchum dance with Seongjupuri song, a prayer for the prosperity of safety of the house and a representation of the southern Korean folk song. Finally, the festival will finish up with a high-energy and colorful performance of the Ohgomu five drums dance. Through this festival, we wish upon the audience hope, peace, and happiness in their lives. http://www.cityguideny.com/eventinfo.cfm?id=146941 Symphony Space true DD/MM/YYYY
