Jonathan Blake Band
Johnathan Blake is one of the most dynamic and respected drummers in modern jazz β a masterful musician, composer, and bandleader whose sound blends deep groove, explosive energy, and extraordinary sensitivity. Born and raised in Philadelphia, Blake is the son of acclaimed jazz violinist John Blake Jr. and began playing drums at age 10, developing his voice within the cityβs rich jazz tradition before going on to study at William Paterson University,
Known for his versatility and commanding presence behind the kit, Blake has performed and recorded with some of the most influential names in jazz, including Pharoah Sanders, Ravi Coltrane, Tom Harrell, Chris Potter, Maria Schneider, Dr. Lonnie Smith, Kenny Barron, Roy Hargrove, and the Mingus Big Band. As a bandleader, his acclaimed Blue Note releases Homeward Bound, Passage, and My Life Matters showcase his powerful compositional voice, emotional depth, and ability to bring together rhythm, melody, family legacy, and social consciousness through music.
