For this Artists at Work, ISCP residents Dana Robinson, Nathaniel Donnett and Shanekia McIntosh will give presentations about their recent work and engage each other in a conversation moderated by independent curator Allison Glenn.
A Q&A with the audience will follow.
Dana Robinson is a Brooklyn-based multidisciplinary artist who uses vintage materials, found artifacts, and paint to explore issues of Blackness, gender, and ownership. She has exhibited work at Utah Museum of Contemporary Art, Salt Lake City; and 92nd Street YMCA, New York, among others.
Nathaniel Donnett’s work defies tradition by employing abstraction and vernacular forms, as well as recontextualizing materials and meaning by diving into sociopolitical-cultural themes and liminal locations. He has exhibited work at Contemporary Arts Museum Houston; Project Row Houses, Houston; and Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, Richmond, among others.
Shanekia McIntosh is a multidisciplinary artist with a focus on poetry. Her work explores the intersections of passivity and action, indifference and empathy, and capitalism's dehumanizing capacities, with the objective of creating space for afro-futurism, empathetic political acts, and accessibility. She has exhibited work at the New Museum; and Collar Works, both in New York, among others.
Allison Glenn is a curator and writer focusing on the intersection between art and the public through biennials, public art, special projects, and major new commissions by a variety of contemporary artists. She's currently co-curator of the Counterpublic 2023 Triennial held in collaboration with The Griot Museum of Black History and the George B. Vashon Museum. Glenn's prior curatorial work include the 2021 show Promise, Witness, Remembrance at Speed Art Museum, which is centered on the life of Breonna Taylor.
