The Bronx Opera
The Bronx Opera returns with four performances of Poulenc's masterwork "Dialogues of the Carmelites," music and libretto by Francis Poulenc, performed in English. Beginning on the eve of the French Revolution, the opera tells the story of Blanche de la Force, a young noblewoman who becomes a Carmelite nun. The Reign of Terror in 1794 forces the nuns to renounce their religious life or choose death. Blanche flees, but ultimately returns to join the other nuns and face the guillotine.
