Surveillance, Propaganda & Control in Midtown Manhattan Tour
Purefinder New York’s Surveillance, Propaganda & Control in Midtown Manhattan Walking Tour explores the Cold War history hidden inside one of the city’s busiest districts. Through familiar Midtown streets and occasional interior spaces, the tour examines how surveillance, information control, media messaging, policing, diplomacy, and public fear entered everyday life in twentieth-century New York.
The experience connects recording studios, libraries, hotels, office buildings, transit hubs, and cultural spaces to stories of federal scrutiny, espionage in plain sight, official reassurance during political tension, and behind-the-scenes influence. It is a darker, more investigative way to experience Midtown, suited to locals and travelers who want New York history beyond the usual landmarks.
